Bishops, Pride Win Pair at Roger Taylor Invitational

Rocky Mount, N.C. - The men's basketball team of North Carolina Wesleyan officially opened the 2013-14 season on Friday and Saturday, hosting its annual Roger Taylor Invitational. The host Bishops, along with the Pride of Greensboro College, went undefeated in the tourney as both teams earned victories over Bob Jones University and Maryland Bible College.

Sunday's action kicked off with Greensboro downing MBC by a 76-72 score. Damian Dixon paced the Pride with a double-double of 17 points and 13 rebounds, while Todd Johnson had 23 points for the Soldiers.

Wesleyan then took the court for a 79-65 victory over Bob Jones. The Bishops shot over 55 percent from the floor in the second half to extend a 3-point halftime lead into a 14-point victory.

Sophomore D.J. Weaver paced the Bishops with a game-high 19 points. Freshman Marcus Williams and senior Josh Morrison joined him in double-figures with 16 and 13, respectively, while Larry Taylor paced Bob Jones with 17 points and nine rebounds.

Previously on Saturday, Greensboro opened play with a 74-64 win over the Bruins. Dixon paced the Pride with 27 points, with Will Griffin chipping in 14. Taylor netted a team-high 16 points for BJU.

The Bishops followed up with a 95-64 victory over Maryland Bible in a contest that saw Wesleyan recognize the tournament's namesake, Roger Taylor, prior to tip-off. Morrison paced four Bishops in double-figures with 17 points, and freshman Tamell Bradham added 17 off the bench.
