Morrison Scores 1,000th Point, Bishops Sweep at Home

Rocky Mount, N.C. - Senior Josh Morrison eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for his career on Saturday afternoon, helping his Battling Bishops to a 81-66 victory over visiting Greensboro College in USA South play. Needing 13 points to become the 17th member of the program's elite club, the Chapel Hill native's milestone basket came with 2:48 remaining in the first half when he secured an offensive rebound and put-back. Morrison went on to tally 33 points on the day, which he followed up with a 21-point effort in Sunday's 76-66 win over Averett.

Versus Greensboro on Saturday, the game looked to be a back-and-forth battle early on until a three-ball by sophomore Brandon Brown at the 15:10 mark gave Wesleyan a 13-10 lead it would not relinquish. The Bishops went on to lead by as many as 16 in the second half en route to the 15-point win.

Brown joined Morrison in double-figures with 18 points on the day, while sophomore Shannon Huff chipped in nine points and 10 rebounds off the bench.

Sunday's game against Averett proved to be much more of a nail-biter. Trailing 66-65, Bishop senior David Gurganus knocked down huge three-pointer from the left wing that put NCWC on top 68-66 with 1:33 to go. From there, Wesleyan's defense did not allow another point, while offensively, the Bishops went 6-of-8 at the charity stripe down the stretch to seal the win.

All five Bishop starters reached double-figures. In addition to Morrison's 21, sophomore Devontae Williams netted 14 points, which included a series of four first-half dunks. Brown finished with 11 points on the day, while Gurganus and sophomore D.J. Weaver each had 10. Both Williams and Morrison completed double-doubles with 10 boards apiece.

Wesleyan (11-12, 6-6 USA South) returns to action on Wednesday night when the Bishops travel to league rival Methodist University. Tip-off is slated for 7:30pm in Fayetteville.
