Bishop Men End Season in USA South Tournament

Maryville, Tenn. - The men's basketball team of North Carolina Wesleyan saw its 2013-14 season come to an end on Thursday evening, falling to LaGrange College by an 88-76 score in the first round of the USA South Conference Tournament. The loss marks the end of the careers of four-year seniors David Gurganus and Josh Morrison.

The Bishops closed out the first half with a 12-5 run that sent the two teams into the break with the Panthers holding a slim 46-43 lead.  Morrison proceeded to make quick work of the deficit by draining a game-tying three-pointer on the Bishops' first possession of the second half for a 46-46 score.

Later tied 61-61 with just over ten minutes remaining, LaGrange netted seven unaswered points to take a lead it would not relinquish. The Bishops would twice get as close as three, the latter coming at 72-69 with 6:08 to go, but the Panthers out-scored NCWC 16-7 the rest of the way to seal the win and advance.

Morrison wrapped up his stellar career with 25 points, seven rebounds and four assists, while Gurganus dished out a game-high five assists of his own. Also reaching double-figures for the Bishops were sophomore Brandon Brown and freshman D.J. Weaver with 16 and 11 points, respectively. Sophomore Shannon Huff chipped in 11 off the bench.

Wesleyan wraps up its 2013-14 campaign with a 13-13 overall record.
