Rocky Mount, N.C. - The North Carolina Wesleyan Department of Athletics is pleased to announce that head men's basketball coach John Thompson has been selected as a Court Coach for the USA Basketball Boys Regional Skills Camp held in Houston, Texas. The camp, which offers advanced level instruction, will be held April 1-3 in conjunction with the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Final Four.

Houston will serve as the Inaugural Boy's Regional Skills Camp offered by USA Basketball and will be directed by Tates Locke, former head coach at Army, Miami (OH), Clemson, Jacksonville, and Indiana State. Part of USA Basketball's Youth Initiative, the three-day clinic will focus on player development, something the governing body for basketball in the United States is striving to improve nationally. Educational sessions will be combined with on-court training focused on fundamental skill work. Combining these sessions with scrimmages and other competition, maximum performance in life and on the court will be promoted.

Having recently completed his 21st season at the helm of the Battling Bishop men's basketball program, Thompson was selected USA South Athletic Conference Coach of the Year.  The fourth such honor of his career,  he led Wesleyan to a 20-7 campaign and the league's regular season championship in 2015-16.

This is Thompson's second venture with USA Basketball. The Durham, N.C. native previously served as a Court Coach at the 2012 U18 National Team Training Camp in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
