Men See Win Streak End with Loss at Maryville

MARYVILLE, TN- The N.C. Wesleyan College men's basketball team unfortunately had their winning streak snapped as they fell 93-78 on the road at Maryville College (Tenn.) on Friday evening.

The Bishops shot nearly 44 percent in the first half along with five threes to lead 42-39 at the break. Unfortunately, Maryville would go on a 34-20 run in the second half shooting 64 percent en route to a 54 point half to outscore Wesleyan by 18 points and pick up the win, snapping the Bishops' five-game win streak in the process. MC made 18 of 22 free throws in the half while holding the Bishops to just 12 second half baskets.

Wesleyan ended up shooting 41 percent for the game led by junior center A.J. Frye's team-high 30 points and just 33 percent from behind-the-arc led by senior guard Justin Tankelewicz's four threes and 12 points. Frye, the current USA Soouth Player of the Week, also led the team with 7 rebounds, four on the offensive end, along with 2 assists. It was his second 30-point game of the season.

Senior guard Chris Braswell and junior forward Ricardo Bullock also each finished in double-digit scoring as Braswell tallied 11 points, 3 assists, and 3 steals while Bullock had 12 points, 5 rebounds, an assist, and two steals.

The Bishops fall to 15-3 overall and 8-2 in the conference with the tough loss while Maryville improves to 12-6 overall and 8-3 in the conference as they sit in 3rd place in the Western Division.

The men next continue their western road trip with a game at West Division leader Covenant College (Ga.) Saturday at 3 PM.
