Men Rally to Sweep Greensboro

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College men's basketball team completed their weekend sweep of rival Greensboro College by rallying from 13 points down to win 82-78 on the road Sunday afternoon.

Senior Damon McDowell capped off his stellar weekend by scoring 17 points in this one to lead the Bishops. He scored 39 in the home win on Friday. McDowell also added 6 rebounds, with 2 assists and a steal.

Greensboro (3-7, 0-2) got out to a nice lead again in this one leading 43-30 at the break behind 47 percent shooting while holding the Bishops to just 38 percent from the floor in the first half and zero three-pointers.

However, Wesleyan would come roaring back with a methodical 30-14 run over the first 11 minutes of the second half to take their first lead at 60-57 with 8:30 to play in the game.

Neither team would lead by more than four for the rest of the game as the Bishops would use 14 second half free throws to help clinch the win. Wesleyan shot 54 percent in the half and held the Pride to just 39 percent from the floor in outscoring them 52-35 for the win.

Also playing well for the Bishops was sophomore forward Tim Pettiford with 15 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals and a block while freshman guard Khalid Chavis-Hinds scored 16 points off the bench to match his total from Friday.

Junior forward Sal-Bey Young finished in double-figure points as well with 10 along with a team and season-high of 14 rebounds and 2 assists. It was Young's first double-double of the season. Freshman guard Marquis Eskew also scored 8 points off the bench while junior forward Isaiah Lewis grabbed 5 rebounds with 6 points.

Wesleyan improves to 5-3 on the season and 2-0 in the conference and remains undefeated against D-3 competition.
