ELON, N.C. - On Saturday the men's cross country and women's track teams went to run at D-1 Elon University. The meet ended with some great performances and a few personal best times as they competed against some great D1 and D2 teams from both NC and VA.

In the 800 meter run, sophomore Christian Tippette (2:03), and freshmen Connor Hayes (2:04) and Terenthen Parker (2:05) ran solid times while competing aggressively with some top tier talented runners. However, sophomore Tyler Bird left with the performance of the day in this race, as he ran his personal best time of 2:14, which was a 15 second improvement from his previous best time.

In the 400 hurdles, sophomore Cameron Achilles ran a 1:04 and finished with a solid run, as this was his 1st time racing this event.  He is currently ranked 10th in the USA South Conference with that performance.

In the 1500 meter men's race, there were multiple outstanding performances, starting off with Tippette who broke his own school record (that he set last week) as he ran a 4:14. Close behind him was Hayes who also improved his record breaking time of last week, as he ran a 4:17. Behind him was Parker who ran a 4:27, as this was his 1st time running this event.  Wrapping up the men's performance was freshman Keyonte Williams, who ran a 4:37, which was a personal best time.

In the women's 1500, sophomore Haley Sheehan ran an intense race with some strong competition.  She finished the race with a time of 5:47, which is now the new school record for that race.

"We competed with a strong fight in our races, and we are seeing improvement in a variety of ways.  Sometimes it isn't about racing faster each race.  Sometimes it is about learning how to compete with aggression and a fight until the end," said head coach Marshall Leonard. "I saw that fight today in our runners, and it is exciting to see our runners take pride in their performances. 

"Another thing that makes me proud, is how we all supported each other as each of our runners competed.  The whole team was up and cheering every step of our teammate's races, and that makes me proud to know that we have the right student athletes on our campus that will represent our school with integrity."
