Bishops Drop Lacrosse Opener to Chowan, 19-7

Rocky Mount, N.C. - North Carolina Wesleyan's lacrosse team opened its 2014 schedule on Tuesday afternoon, dropping a 19-7 decision to Division II Chowan University at Scalf Field. Bishop freshman Molly Lewis scored a trio of goals in her collegiate debut, while also securing five draws and three ground balls.

Chowan built an 11-5 halftime lead and held Wesleyan to just two second half goals, both by Lewis. Statistically, the Hawks held a 31-22 advantage in shots and 18-10 edge in draw controls for the match.

Tikeyah Shaw, Laine Hicks, Jade Gold and Haley Hopkins also tallied scores for the Bishops. The Hawks were paced by Charisse Wilcox with eight goals, while CU's Haley Haggard made ten saves en route to the win in goal. NCWC's Marissa Santos made nine stops on the day.

Wesleyan (0-1) returns to action on March 1st when the Bishops open up USA South Conference play with a league match at Huntingdon College.
