Rocky Mount, N.C. - N.C. Wesleyan's lacrosse squad picked up its first win of the season on Saturday afternoon, downing USA South foe Agnes Scott College by a 14-11 score at Scalf Field. Freshman Molly Lewis tallied a match-high seven goals, while junior Tikeyah Shaw notched a trio of scores with two assists. The win is the first over the Scotties in Battling Bishop lacrosse history.

After fighting to a 2-2 tie after 15 minutes of play, the Bishops reeled off six of the next seven goals to take an 8-3 lead into the half. Lewis paved the way with three scores, including two in the final 1:13 of the period.

NCWC held its biggest advantage of the match midway through the second half when Lewis netted an unassisted goal that made the score 14-7. The goal was her seventh of the contest, tying the second most single-game total in program history.

The Scotties went on to close out the match with four unanswered goals, but it was too little too late as the Bishops held on for the three-goal win.

Senior Laine Hicks scored two of her three goals in the second half, the latter coming on an assist from Shaw. Junior Jade Gold also got in on the action with a goal and an assist to go along with a team-high six groundballs.

Wesleyan out-shot Agnes Scott 33-16 on the day and held an 18-9 advantage in draw controls, six of which were secured by Lewis. The Bishops also held a 28-22 edge in groundballs.

Saturday's win followed up a solid showing versus Transylvania University on Thursday that saw NCWC fall 15-9. Gold paced the Bishops with a trio of goals and five groundballs, while sophomore Marissa Santos made six saves in goal.
