Lacrosse Upended by Southwestern

GEORGETOWN, TX- The NC Wesleyan women's lacrosse team dropped their road game to Southwestern University (TX) 19-9 on Tuesday afternoon.

A close first half saw the Bishops claw to within 8-6 with 5 minutes to go in the first half as they went on a 3-0 run. SU would then take a 10-6 lead into the break. Sophomore midfielder Ali Cucinotta led the Bishops with four first-half goals.

Unfortunately for the Bishops, SU started the second half scoring 6 unanswered goals to take a commanding 16-6 lead halfway through the second period. Wesleyan would then add three goals in a row to cut their deficit to seven at 16-9 with 12 minutes to play. But SU would close it out with three of their own for the win.

Cucinotta led the Bishops with 6 goals, her season-high along with an assist, 7 draw control wins and 5 ground balls to lead the team in all categories. 

Freshman attacker Grace Look also added a goal and an assist along with five draw wins while fellow freshmen, Madeline Graham and Kailey Andrasko also each added a goal while collecting three ground balls apiece. Freshman Goalie Millenia Crespo made 17 saves as well.

Wesleyan falls to 0-4 on the year while Southwestern improves to 4-2. The Bishops are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Meredith College in Raleigh for a 3:30 PM matchup.
