ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College women's lacrosse team pulled off their first win of the season on Sunday as they rallied to defeat conference foe Brevard College 11-8 at home.

It was also the Bishops' first home win and first USA South conference win since the program was restarted last season.

After Brevard got out to a 2-0 lead early, the Bishops rallied for two quick goals from freshman Madeline Graham and sophomore Ali Cucinotta to tie the game at 2. Wesleyan would then take a 4-3 lead halfway through the first half off consecutive goals from freshman attacker Grace Look and fellow freshman Lindsay Abernathy.

Brevard would then go on a 3-0 scoring run to retake the lead at 6-4 before Cucinotta added a late goal for the Bishops just before the half to get Wesleyan within one at 6-5.

The two teams would then go scoreless for the first 14 minutes of the second half as freshman goalie Millenia Crespo made save after save for the Bishops until Brevard broke through for a goal to lead 7-5. However, four minutes later the Lady Bishops would score two goals in a span of 30 seconds to immediately tie the game at 7 with 11 minutes to play and change the momentum back into their favor.

Wesleyan would then step on the accelerator and go on a huge four-goal spurt in just over two minutes time to clinch the game and their first win. It began with a beautiful Grace Look goal off an assist from Cucinotta to give Wesleyan the 8-7 lead with 5:00 to play. Then in a span of just 25 seconds, Graham and Cucinotta then added two goals to put the Bishops up 10-7. Freshman Madison O'Neill's assist to Look then completed the scoring for Wesleyan as the Bishops would go on to secure their first win.

Crespo ended up making an incredible 24 saves on 32 shots on goal (.750 save percentage) for her best game of the season so far. Cucinotta led with 4 goals and 4 assists, 6 caused turnovers, and 11 draw control wins while Look added 3 goals. Graham also led with 5 ground balls.

Wesleyan improves to 1-10 on the season and 1-4 in the conference while dropping Brevard to 6-6 and 3-4 in conference.

Wesleyan is back in action when they go on the road Wednesday to face Salem College at 4 PM.
