Bishop Men & Women Stay Atop USA South Soccer Standings

Rocky Mount, N.C. - N.C. Wesleyan's soccer teams continued to roll over the weekend, each turning in a pair of league shutouts to stay atop their respective USA South standings.

At Scalf Field, the Battling Bishop women posted 2-0 and 4-0 shutouts of Greensboro and William Peace, respectively. Versus the Pride on Saturday, Lauren Seegel booted home the eventual gamewinner in the 37th minute off a Victoria Burkhart free kick. Hannah Tolson later headed home an Ella Burkhart corner late in the second half to provide the 2-0 final. NCWC keeper Ashley Major continued her solid play, making six saves on nine shots.

Sunday's match against WPU saw NCWC notch a pair of scores in each half. Jordan Forbess notched all the offense the Bishops would need with a goal at 22:41 off a Julia Rebellon cross, while Rebellon, Seegel, and Shayla Thorne added insurance goals to secure the 4-0 victory. Wesleyan out-shot the Pacers 20-1 on the day en route to the team's fourth straight shutout.

Wesleyan's men were on the road, traveling to Ferrum and Greensboro where they notched 3-0 and 1-0 victories. Four different Bishops provided goals, led by Baboucarr Njie and Kobi Boompong's gamewinners. Caetano Viegas and Sheriff Secka tallied insurance goals in the win at Ferrum, while Bishop keeper Alex Magner made six saves over the two matches.

The Bishop men (7-3, 4-0 USA South) take a break from conference action on Wednesday when they travel to regional rival Virginia Wesleyan for a 7:00pm tilt with the Marlins. Wesleyan's women (7-2-1, 6-1 USA South) continue league play earlier that afternoon when they attempt to avenge their lone conference loss with a 4:30pm match at Methodist University.
