Battling Bishop Men Win Fifth Straight, Women Fall at CNU

Columbia, S.C. / Newport News, Va. - Both NCWC basketball teams were in action on Wednesday night. The Bishop men won their fifth straight with a 93-73 victory at Columbia International, while Wesleyan's women suffered at 91-49 setback at Christopher Newport.

On the men's side at CIU (3-9), the Bishops used a 16-2 run midway the first half to turn a 13-13 tie into a 14-point advantage. NCWC took an eventual 53-35 lead into the break and shot over 50 percent from the floor on the night to secure the 20-point win.

Leading the way for Wesleyan was junior Adrian Moore with a team-high 18 points. Sophomore Chris Braswell added 14 of his own, while Justin Tankelewicz and A.J. Frye rounded out players in double figures with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Junior Malique Judd chipped in eight points and a game-high nine rebounds off the bench for the Bishops, who dominated the boards 45-26.

In women's action at CNU (8-0), the nationally-ranked Captains opened up a 23-7 advantage after one quarter of play and did not look back en route to their eighth win of the season. Junior KeChae Parker paced the Bishops with a game-high 15 points, and senior Timyra Staton grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.

Statistically, CNU shot over 46 percent from the floor in the contest, while holding the Bishops to just 28 percent accuracy.

Wesleyan women now enter the holiday break with a 5-5 overall record. The Bishops return to action on January 2nd at Virginia Wesleyan College. NCWC's men (7-3) wrap up pre-holiday play on Friday and Saturday with road contests at High Point University and Guilford College.
