Four Bishop Athletes Garner USA South Weekly Honors

Fayetteville, N.C. - The USA South Athletic Conference has released its weekly awards for March 13th with four Battling Bishop players garnering accolades in their respective sports of baseball and men's tennis.

BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Tony Sanchez, N.C. Wesleyan - The senior first baseman from Raleigh, North Carolina went a combined 12-for-26 (.462) with a .556 on-base percentage and a .846 slugging percentage to go along with ten runs scored, ten RBIs, two doubles, one triple, two homeruns, eight walks, two sacrifice flies, and one stolen base as the Bishops notched a 5-3 week. In a 14-7 loss to Mt. Aloysius, Sanchez reached base all four times as he was 1-for-1 with three walks and one run scored. In a doubleheader split with Penn College, Sanchez was a combined 2-for-7 with three runs scored, one RBI, one double, two walks, and a sac-fly. In a 17-9 victory over Penn St.-Berks, Sanchez was 2-for-2 with three runs scored, four RBIs, one double, and a homer. In a three-game sweep of USA South foe Covenant, Sanchez was a combined 5-for-12 with two runs scored, four RBIs, one homerun, and a stolen base. Finally, in a 7-6 loss to Stevenson, Sanchez was 2-for-4 with one run scored, one run batted in, one triple, and one walk.

BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Ryan Grant, N.C. Wesleyan - The senior from Goldsboro, North Carolina earned a complete-game shutout victory over USA South foe Covenant, a 6-0 win, in his only appearance on the mound last week for the Bishops. Grant allowed just five hits and two walks while striking out ten batters.

MEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Ioannis Brokakis, N.C. Wesleyan - The sophomore from Heraklion, Greece earned a 3-1 singles record and a 4-0 mark at the top doubles spot last week for the Bishops. In singles play at the #1 seed, Brokakis was 2-0, defeating opponents from St. John Fisher and Mount Union. He was 1-1 at the #2 position with his lone victory over an opponent from USA South foe Methodist. In doubles, Brokakis teamed with three different Bishops to gain wins over St. John Fisher, Wilkes, Methodist, and Mount Union.

MEN'S TENNIS ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
David Appelqvist, N.C. Wesleyan - The freshman from Motala, Sweden earned a 3-0 singles record and a 3-0 mark at the #2 doubles spot last week for the Bishops. In singles play at the 2nd-seed, Appelqvist was 1-0, defeating an opponent from Mount Union. He was 2-0 at the #4 position with wins over Wilkes and USA South foe Methodist. In doubles, Appelqvist teamed with David Chang for the three victories.
