D3Week Daily Focus: COMPETITIVE EXCELLENCE

D3Week Daily Focus: COMPETITIVE EXCELLENCE

Rocky Mount, N.C. - The N.C. Wesleyan Department of Athletics is continuing its celebration of Division III Week with the final of four features highlighting the various aspects of its 4C Philosophy. Friday's focus is Competitive Excellence.

North Carolina Wesleyan College has a rich athletics tradition that began with the vision of three pioneers: Dr. Raymond "Moe" Bauer, Coach Don Scalf, and Coach Jean Edge. Their vision led to the creation of a "Points of Pride" section on our official athletics website that is often overlooked. This section is the epitome of Competitive Excellence for our Battling Bishops, laying out NCWC's Hall of Fame, National Championships, All-Americans, Retired Jerseys, and Record Book.

As we wrap up Division III Week with the final "C" of our 4C Philosophy, we encourage you to visit a link below to better understand what Competitive Excellence means to our Battling Bishops. We also encourage our Wesleyan community to take time to visit the Taylor Center Hall of Fame area where you'll see many of the names and memorabilia mentioned within the POINTS OF PRIDE that follow.

HALL OF FAME
Since 1999, North Carolina Wesleyan has honored 67 former athletes, administrators, teams and coaches by enshrining them in its Athletic Hall of Fame. These individuals created a higher standard for Battling Bishop athletics and were selected based on their outstanding accomplishments. This section contains a short bio of all 67 inductees!

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Battling Bishops have won a pair of NCAA Division III National Championships in baseball, as well as numerous regional, conference and tournament crowns in a variety of sports. This section provides recaps of the Battling Bishops' two National Titles, followed by a sport-by-sport breakdown of Wesleyan's conference championships and NCAA berths.

ALL-AMERICANS
North Carolina Wesleyan has had several student-athletes across a variety of sports earn All-American accolades, both athletically and academically. This section lists a sport-by-sport breakdown of every All-American accolade earned by our Battling Bishops since 1981.

RETIRED JERSEYS
The Battling Bishops have had 13 coaches and athletes garner jersey retirement, which is considered to be the highest honor bestowed upon an individual. This section lists the student-athletes who have been honored by their respective programs, as well as link to Hall of Fame bios when applicable.

RECORD BOOK
North Carolina Wesleyan has joined many small colleges and universities across the nation by compiling a complete record of its intercollegiate athletic teams. The contents of this publication were initially compiled in July of 2006 by the NCWC Sports Information Office and feature records of 14 varsity sports.

"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit."

And with that simple truth, we wish everyone a Happy Division III Week!
