Makauskas and Braswell Earn USA South Weekly Honors

Fayetteville, N.C. - The USA South Athletic Conference has released its weekly awards for February 19th, and two Battling Bishops have earned recognition in their respective sports of baseball and softball. Junior J.D. Makauskas was named baseball's Pitcher of the Week, while freshman Beth Braswell was tabbed softball's Rookie Pitcher of the Week. These are the first career awards for both players.

Baseball Pitcher of the Week
J.D. Makauskas, N.C. Wesleyan - The junior from Jacksonville, Florida earned a victory over Emory in his only appearance on the mound last week for the Battling Bishops. In seven shutout innings, he allowed four hits with one walk and six strikeouts to give NCWC the, 5-3, win.

Softball Rookie Pitcher of the Week
Beth Braswell, N.C. Wesleyan - The freshman from Princeton, North Carolina picked up the win over Piedmont International, 7-2, by throwing six innings in her only appearance in the circle for the Battling Bishops last week. Braswell allowed two unearned runs on five hits with zero walks and six strikeouts.
