NC Wesleyan Announces Fall Sports Awards

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College Athletic Dept. has announced their fall sports awards on Monday. The awards being handed out are for Most Valuable Player (MVP), Scholar-Athlete Award and the Moe Bauer Sportsmanship Award in the sports of Football, Volleyball, Men's & Women's Soccer, and Men's & Women's Cross Country.

**For Football and head coach Jeff Filkovski, All-American Linebacker and 2x Conference Defensive Player of the Year Antonio Johnson was named Defensive MVP while first team all-conference tight end Ben Dorfman was named Offensive MVP. Taking home the scholar-athlete award was senior safety Leo Guzman, majoring in Psychology, while senior QB Donielle Totten was named as the Sportsmanship winner.

--Led by head coach Vicky Gentile, the 2019 Volleyball award winners were led by team MVP, setter Haileigh Riesenbeck while sophomore Mary Catherine Davis, majoring in communications, picked up the Scholar-Athlete award. The sportsmanship award then went to freshman Andrea Vendrame.

**The 2019 Men's Soccer USA South Conference Champs, led by head coach Meir Lewin, then gave out their MVP award to the Conference Player of the Year Baboucarr Njie. Picking up the scholar-athlete award was sophomore goalkeeper Tobias Borzel, who is majoring in Business Admin. & Marketing, while the sportsmanship award was given to senior leader Mamadou Jallow.

--For Women's Soccer, led by head coach Beverly Biancur, the team MVP was awarded to junior goalkeeper Alicia Jacobs. Taking home the scholar-athlete award was Alyssa Brookhart, who is majoring in Biomed and Environmental Science while the sportsmanship award was given to senior captain Victoria Burkhart.

**Finally, the Cross Country team, led by head coach Marshall Leonard, gave out their MVPs to third team all-conference runner Andrew Bowen on the men's side and Cedara Franklin on the women's side. The sportsmanship winners went to Philly Barungi and Teanna Bellamy while the scholar-athlete awards were collected by business administration major Connor Hayes and Hayley Sheehan.

 

Tuesday will be the announcement of the Winter Sports.
