Rocky Mount, N.C. - Members of several Battling Bishop athletic squads donated their time on Saturday morning to aid with the area's "Stop Hunger Now" efforts in Edge Gym. Nearly 40 student-athletes from Wesleyan's football, volleyball, women's soccer and basketball teams helped package 10,000 meals in less than 2 hours to support the mission to end hunger during our lifetime.
Regarded as one of the most fun and exciting service projects of 2011, the Stop Hunger Now meal packaging event benefits those in need all across the globe as well as here in our own community. Last year, volunteers worked hard to package meals that there intended to be sent to Haiti. Later that day tornadoes ripped through the heart of North Carolina leaving 130 people severely injured and 84,000 more without power. The Stop Hunger Now warehouse located in Raleigh was also destroyed by the devastating storm. The meals packaged by the NCWC community were immediately rerouted and stayed right here in North Carolina to be at the aid of our neighbors.
