Fayetteville, N.C. - The USA South Athletic Conference has released its weekly awards for March 25th, and two Battling Bishops earned honors in their respective sports. Sophomore J.J. Rodriguez picked up his first career Player of the Week award in baseball, while freshman Johan Ljungdahl was named both Player and Rookie of the Week in men's tennis.
Baseball Player of the
Week
J.J. Rodriguez, N.C. Wesleyan - The
sophomore first baseman from Clewiston, Florida went 7-for-15
(.467) with six runs scored, four RBI, one home run, two walks and
one stolen base as the Bishops posted a 3-1 record last week. In a
9-8 loss to Tufts, Rodriguez was 2-for-5 with one run scored, one
run batted in and one stolen base. In a three-game series sweep of
USA South foe Greensboro, Rodriguez was a combined 5-for-10 with
five runs scored, three RBI, one home run and two walks.
Men's Tennis
Player & Rookie of the Week
Johan Ljungdahl, N.C. Wesleyan - The
Stockholm, Sweden freshman earned a 2-0 record at both #1
singles and #1 doubles last week. In singles play, Ljungdahl's
victories came over USA South opponents from Maryville and Ferrum.
In doubles action, Ljungdahl teamed with Marcus Pola to earn the
wins and help the Bishops to a pair of league sweeps.
