Bishop Men Win Pair, Women Extend Win Streak to Four

Rocky Mount, N.C. / Ferrum, Va. - The men's and women's tennis teams of N.C. Wesleyan were back in action on Tuesday afternoon, sweeping Bluefield College at the Slick Family Foundation Tennis Center by 6-3 and 5-4 scores, respectively. The Battling Bishop men also sent a team on the road to Ferrum College, where NCWC picked up an 8-1 USA South win.

Wesleyan's women won their fourth straight match with their Tuesday victory and climb above the .500 mark for the first time this season at 4-3 overall. Florencia Sorrentino teamed with Ana Diaz for an 8-1 win at #2 doubles, and both players managed three-set wins at #3 and #4 singles to seal the victory for the Bishops, who picked up default wins at #3 doubles and #6 singles.

NCWC's men picked up a pair of points in doubles play, thanks to victories by J.D. Telles/Mikhail Konnov and Ioannis Brokakis/Mark Sokolov at #2 and #3. Sokolov, Telles, and Konnov went on to earn singles victories at #3 through #5, while sophomore Sebastian Sikh's 6-4, 6-4 victory at the top seed provided the 6-3 final.

On the road at Ferrum, the Bishops (4-5, 2-0 USA South) took a 2-1 lead in doubles action after the duos of David Chang/Sebastian Wiiala and Ben Tolhurst/Augustin Gonzalez posted victories at the top two seeds. Henry Lam, Richard Gende, Chang, Tolhurst, Wiiala, and Gonzalez went on to tally straight-set wins at #1 through #6 singles, respectively.

Both teams return to USA South play on Sunday at home when the Bishops host William Peace University at 1:00pm.
