Trio of Bishop Players Pick Up USA South Weekly Honors

Fayetteville, N.C. - The USA South Athletic Conference has released its weekly awards for March 28th with a trio of Battling Bishop players picking up honors in their respective sports of softball and tennis.

Softball Pitcher of the Week
Logan Lowery, N.C. Wesleyan - The Kannapolis, N.C. sophomore earned a 2-0 record in three appearances last week, which included two complete-game performances. In 16.0 innings pitched, Lowery posted a 0.00 ERA and allowed five unearned runs on seven hits with ten strikeouts. In a 4-3 win over Conference-leading Piedmont, Lowery went the distance and allowed three unearned runs on one hit with seven strikeouts. In a 3-2 loss to Piedmont, Lowery came on in relief to toss two perfect innings. Finally, in a 3-2 victory over Maryville, Lowery again tossed a complete game and allowed two unearned runs on six hits with three strikeouts.

Women's Tennis Player of the Week
Valeria Berber, N.C. Wesleyan - The senior from La Piedad, Mexico earned a 2-0 record at both the #1 singles and doubles positions last week for the Bishops versus USA South competition. In singles, both of Berber's victories were of the straight-set variety and came versus Piedmont and Maryville. In doubles, Berber teamed with Stephany Barbera to collect the two wins.

Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week
Ioannis Brokakis, N.C. Wesleyan - The freshman from Heraklion, Greece earned a 2-0 singles and doubles record last week for the Bishops versus USA South competition. In singles, Brokakis earned a victory at the #2 position over Piedmont and a win at the top singles spot over Maryville. In doubles, Brokakis teamed with Eduardo Ugalde to collect wins at the #3 and #2 positions.
