Bishops, Monarchs to Play for Regular Season Titles on Wednesday

Rocky Mount, N.C. - The NCWC men's and women's tennis teams posted a pair of 9-0 sweeps of William Peace on Tuesday and are now set to host rival Methodist on Wednesday with their respective USA South Regular Season Championships on the line.

Wesleyan's women won their sixth straight match with their Tuesday victory over the Pacers and climb 11-4 overall. The doubles tandems of Valeria Berber/Stephany Barbera, Florencia Sorrentino/Ana Diaz, and Andrea Tobar/Ariana Paz surrendered just one game en route to a 3-0 lead heading into singles play. The Bishops proceeded to notch six straight-set victories, including four by 6-0, 6-0 scores. Sorrentino's victory at #3 was her 19th of the season, setting a new Bishop program record.

At 10-1 in conference play, the Bishop women will be playing for at least a share of the regular season crown when they face the Monarchs on Wednesday. Methodist currently sits atop the conference standings at 9-0 in league play.

NCWC's men also picked up their sixth straight victory with Tuesday's sweep of WPU, and the Bishops have now out-scored their last six league opponents 54-0 to move to 10-6 on the season. The duos of Mike Konnov/Peter Hviid, Eduardo Ugalde/Sebastian Wiiala, and Ben Tolhurst/Augustin Gonzalez were all 8-0 winners in doubles action, while Jaime Ortega and Salvador Estrada joined Ugalde, Konnov, Wiiala, and Hviid to post a singles sweep.

Wesleyan's men remain undefeated in league action at 9-0, and the Bishops will be attempting to secure the program's eighth straight regular season crown when they face Methodist on Wednesday. The Monarchs are currently 8-0 in conference play and will be attempting to upset a Wesleyan team that has not lost a regular season conference match since the spring of 2008.

Wednesday's home match versus Methodist is slated for a 2:00pm start at the Slick Family Foundation Tennis Center. Head Coach Dustin Hale will be honoring his seniors prior to the match, as well as providing free pizza to Bishop spectators.
