Bishop Soccer Sweeps Pair of League Shutouts versus William Peace

Rocky Mount, N.C. - N.C. Wesleyan hosted William Peace University in a USA South soccer doubleheader on Saturday, sweeping the Pacers with a pair of shutouts at Scalf Field. The women opened play with a 6-0 victory, while the men cruised to a 3-0 win in the nightcap.

On the women's side, six different Bishops tallied goals, beginning with junior Logan Bill's header at the 8:46 mark on an assist from freshman Maggie Rankin. One minute later, senior Sarah Olsowski and Bill executed a perfect give-and-go that resulted in an Olsowski score, while Ella Burkhart's 35-yard blast in the 19th minute made the score 3-0. Brittanie Hensley later headed home a Burhart corner for a 4-0 lead at the break.

The second half saw freshmen Lauren Seegal and Madeline Williams net goals to secure the 6-0 final. NCW keepers Vanessa Batchelor and Ashley Major combined for the shutout.

In the second match, Wesleyan's men dominated the shot count 23-5. Caetano Viegas was credited with the eventual gamewinner with a header off a Thorfinnur Thorfinsson corner at the 7:37 mark. Joe Storer and AJ Wadda tallied unassisted scores in the 22nd and 53rd minutes to seal the victory.

Defensively, NCW's Jesper Olsson made one save in goal to preserve the shutout.

Both the men and women continue league play this weekend at home versus Huntingdon and LaGrange. Both doubleheaders are slated for 1:00pm starts at Scalf Field.
