Baseball Wins Big, Brooks Grabs Weekly Honor

Rocky Mount, N.C. - The Battling Bishop baseball team picked up an 11-1 victory over visiting Maine-Presque Isle on Monday afternoon. Senior hurler Shane Flynn earned his first win of the season, tossing five scoreless innings and allowing just one hit while striking out six.

The Bishops opened up a 9-0 lead after five complete thanks to a five-run third. The Owls scratched out a run in the seventh, but NCWC answered with a two-run double by Tyler Clark in the bottom half of the inning for the 11-1 final.

Junior Jake Alexander was 3-for-3 at the plate for Wesleyan with a pair of RBIs and two runs scored. Freshman J.J. Rodriguez also ripped three hits on the day.

In other baseball news, freshman pitcher Hatteras Brooks was named the USA South's Rookie Pitcher of the Week for February 20th. The Washington, N.C. freshman earned the win in a 7-2 victory over Polytechnic (NY) in his only appearance on the mound last week. Brooks tossed five shutout innings, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out ten batters to earn his first collegiate victory.

Now winners of four of their last five, the Bishops (5-4) will open up USA South play this Friday at 3:00pm when Ferrum College visits Bauer Field.
