Rocky Mount, N.C. - North Carolina Wesleyan's baseball team kicked off its 10-game homestand on Wednesday afternoon with a 6-4 win over the Nittany Lions of Penn State-Abington at Bauer Field. Senior Andre' Nichols paced the offense by going 3-for-4 with an RBI and run scored.

PSU-Abington got on the board first with an unearned run in the opening frame. Bill Parave did the honors with 2-out RBI-single to right field that scored Mike Kerns.

The Bishops scratched their first run in the third on an RBI-single by Nichols that plated fellow senior Pat Laffin, who had led off the inning with a laser to left. Tied 1-1, Laffin proceeded to give Wesleyan its first lead in the fifth when he again scored, this time on a fielder's choice by Jake Alexander.

The Bishops added an insurance run in the sixth on an RBI-single by Hayden Williams that scored Tyler Clark, but the Lions answered with three-spot in the seventh to retake the lead, 4-3. Tom Ditro provided the big blow with a two-out single to left center that plated the tying and go-ahead runs.

Abington's lead, however, was short-lived as the Bishops battled back with three runs of their own after the stretch. The rally began with a trio of singles that loaded the bases, followed by an RBI-single by Clark and two-run double by freshman J.J. Rodriguez that proved to be the game-clincher.

Starting pitcher Jackson Pleasant got a no-decision after scattering five hits over six complete, allowing just the one unearned run.

Current USA South Rookie Pitcher of the Week Dustin Bare (1-0) came on in the seventh and picked up the win. Bare had previously earned the league honor on Monday after posting a 0.00 ERA over 4.1 innings pitched last week. In three relief appearances, the Hays, N.C. freshman picked up his first collegiate save and did not allow a hit.

The Battling Bishops, who are now 10-10 on the season, host Lynchburg College tomorrow (Thursday) at 3:00pm.
