Wesleyan Hosts Three-Game Set with North Central

Rocky Mount, N.C. - The Battling Bishop baseball team hosted a three-game set versus North Central College over the weekend. The Cardinals took Friday's opener and Sunday's finale by 4-3 and 4-1 scores, respectively, while NCWC was a 6-4 winner on Saturday. Brandon Roberts earned Wesleyan's lone victory on the mound, with Jake Swartout earning his second save of the season.

On Saturday, the Bishops put up a  four-spot in the fifth inning that was highlighted by a two-run single by freshman Brad Guengerich. The runs gave NCWC a 5-1 lead that it would not relinquish. Roberts (4-2) went 5 2/3 innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits.

Previously on Friday, the Bishops came up just short in a ninth-inning rally that saw the first two runners reach safely. Freshman Marcus Kornegay then pulled NCWC to within one with an RBI-single, but NCC's bullpen came through in the clutch with two strikeouts and a pop-up to end the threat.

In the finale, Cardinal hurler Ben Krusen tossed a three-hit shutout, while Wesleyan's Kaleb Wessell suffered yet another tough defeat in a solid outing.

Wesleyan (13-15) hosts Tufts University on Thursday at 3:00pm at Bauer Field.
