Rocky Mount, N.C. - North Carolina Wesleyan's baseball team turned in a 8-0 shutout of Hampden-Sydney College on Wednesday afternoon, making the official opening of Guzzo Gateway at Bauer Field a memorable one.

Wesleyan's 2012 senior class took time to pose in front of the new entrance after the contest, but it was a pair of freshman that made the difference during the game. Righty Hatteras Brooks tossed a complete-game, four-hit shutout on the mound, while second baseman Brad Guengerich went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs.

Although the Bishops scored in every inning but the fifth, Guengerich's two-run single in the first proved to be all the offense Brooks would need as he moved to 2-2 on the season, striking out six along the way.

In addition to Guengerich, junior shortstop Jake Alexander went 4-for-5 with two RBIs of his own. Andre' Nichols and Stephen Machin added two hits apiece as well.

Wesleyan (15-17) plays at home again on Thursday as the Bishops host Randolph-Macon at 3:30pm.

* A formal dedication of Guzzo Gateway is planned for the fall of 2012 prior to the Battling Bishops' annual alumni game (Homecoming). A special thanks goes out to the alumni, parents and friends of Wesleyan baseball for making this beautiful new entrance possible.
