NCWC Baseball Splits with St. Andrews at Bauer Field

Rocky Mount, N.C. - North Carolina Wesleyan's baseball team earned a twinbill split with non-conference foe St. Andrews University on Tuesday afternoon at Bauer Field. The opener saw NCWC get strong pitching performances from freshmen Robert Mondoux and Dillon Moore en route to a 2-1 victory in 13 innings, while the nightcap was called due to darkness with the Knights up 4-3 after six complete.

Mondoux went ten strong innings in the opener, allowing just one run on four hits. The one run came on a Knight homer in the top of the seventh, but sophomore Brad Guengerich bailed his teammate out with a two-out RBI-single in Wesleyan's final at-bat to force extras.

In the bottom of the 13th, Guengerich again game through with a two-out single and was moved to third by a Ricardo Ciuffetelli single to left center. Junior Hayden Williams proceeded to deliver a walk-off single that plated Guengerich and gave the Bishops their fourth straight victory.

Moore (1-1) tossed the final three scoreless innings, scattering just three hits to secure the win.

Game two was called due to darkness after six innings of play. The Knights plated a trio of runs in the fifth to erase a 2-1 deficit and steal the victory. NCWC's George Moore (0-1) took the loss despite striking out five and giving up only four hits.

Wesleyan (15-18) returns to USA South play on Friday and Saturday when the Bishops travel to Ferrum College for a three-game set.
