Rocky Mount, N.C. - North Carolina Wesleyan's baseball team wrapped up its 2013 regular season slate over the weekend, taking the opener of its three-game series with Christopher Newport in thrilling fashion before dropping the final two games to the regular season league champions. Prior to Sunday's game, head coach Charlie Long honored his two seniors: Jake Alexander and Jake Swartout.

The Bishops entered the weekend needing a sweep of the Captains to earn the USA South regular season title. Wesleyan made things interesting with a 1-0 win in Saturday's opener, thanks to a stellar pitching performance by junior Will Beasley and a walk-off RBI-single by freshman Ciro Norzagaray.

Beasley (4-2) went the distance, allowing just four Captain hits and striking out four.  Junior Hayden Williams had two hits for the Bishops, including a lead-off double in the ninth.

Unfortunately, CNU secured the title with a 12-6 win in the nightcap, and the Captains went on to take the series with a 9-0 win on Sunday.

With a 15-9 record in conference play, the Bishops will now be the #2 seed in next weekend's USA South Tournament. Wesleyan will take on 7th-seeded Maryville College at 4:30pm on Thursday at Fleming Stadium in Wilson.
