NCWC Baseball Tallies Second Walk-Off in Six Days

Rocky Mount, N.C. - For the second time in six days, the NCWC baseball team celebrated a walk-off win... this time a 6-5 USA South victory over Greensboro College on Sunday afternoon at Bauer Field. Tied 5-5 in the 10th inning, senior Marcus Kornegay did the honors with a bases loaded single to left that plated Chris Rogerson with the winning run.

RBIs by J.J. Rodriguez, Stephen Machin and Ricardo Ciuffetelli had given the Bishops a 5-3 advantage heading into the late innings. The Pride, however, forced extras with a pair of runs in the eighth.

In the 10th, Rogerson got things started when he was hit by a pitch to lead of the inning. Justin DiSanto then suffered the same fate, which was followed by a Ciro Norzagaray bunt single. With the bases loaded, the Pride got a huge "K" for the inning's first out, but with the infield drawn in, Kornegay's sharp grounder easily made its way through the hole between third and short to bring Rogerson home.

Kornegay and Norzagaray each had two hits in the win, while Rodriguez finished an impressive 5-for-5 at the plate.

Norzagaray also got a no-decision on the mound, giving up three runs on four hits with seven strikeouts over seven complete. Junior Dillon Moore (1-1) picked up the win, allowing just one hit over 2.2 innings of relief work.

The victory allowed Wesleyan to avoid a three-game sweep by the Pride. Greensboro had previously escaped Friday's opener with a 10-5 win 13 innings. GC proceeded to take the first half of Sunday's doubleheader by a 9-4 tally.

The Bishops travel to St. Andrews University on Tuesday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00pm.
