Maryville, Tenn. - North Carolina Wesleyan's baseball team picked up a 16-14 victory over the Scots of Maryville College on Saturday afternoon to avoid a three-game league sweep on the road. Sophomore Kaelan Jacobs blasted a two-run homer in the eighth inning to give the Bishops just enough offense to pull off the victory.

The Bishops plated 11 runs in their first three at-bats thanks, in part, to four RBIs from senior Marcus Kornegay. The Scots countered with six runs of their own as both starting pitchers were forced into early exits.

Bishop junior Ciro Norzagaray shut down Maryville in relief, allowing one run on four hits and 10 strikeouts over 6.2 innings of work. He exited with a comfortable lead after Jacobs' second homer of the season put Wesleyan up 16-7 entering the ninth.

The Scots, however, made things interesting with seven runs in their final at-bat. After Nick Dean's second blast of the game pulled Maryville to within two, junior Dillon Moore ended the game and threat by forcing a fly-out to center.

Norzagaray, Kornegay and freshman Caleb Narron had three hits apiece to pace the Bishops, who tallied 17 hits as a team. Senior J.J. Rodriguez also drove in three runs on a pair of hits.

The win came on the heels of a twinbill sweep by the Scots on Friday. Maryville took the opener by a 16-8 score before scoring a walk-off win in the nightcap by a 4-3 tally.

Wesleyan (8-23, 6-18 USA South) returns home to host Roanoke College on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00pm at Bauer Field.
