Rocky Mount, N.C. - N.C. Wesleyan's baseball team wrapped up its USA South Conference slate this weekend with a series win over Piedmont College at Bauer Field. The Bishops took the first two games by 9-3 and 5-3 scores, respectively, before dropping Sunday's finale 15-6.

Friday's opener saw junior Ryan Grant (6-2) strike out five over seven solid innings to pick up his sixth win of the season. The Bishops never trailed, plating a trio of runs in the first inning and a pair of scores each in the third, fourth, and seventh frames. Offensively, junior Tony Sanchez racked up three RBIs on a pair of hits, while senior Kaelan Jacobs went 3-for-4 with two driven in.

On Saturday, the Bishops and Lions waited out two time changes due to rain and eventually flip-flopped their head-shaving event in support of The Vs. Cancer Foundation. Both teams participated in the event prior to an eventual 4:00pm start, with NCWC surpassing its $7,000 fundraising goal. The Bishops went on to celebrate with a 5-3 victory after overcoming an early 3-0 deficit.

Down 3-0 in the fifth, sophomore Jefferson Knight got things started with a double to left-center, and he would eventually score on a wild pitch to get Wesleyan on the board. A few batters later, senior James Lovett blasted his ninth homerun of the season, a two-run shot that knotted the score at 3-3. An RBI-double by freshman Trey Croom and a run-scoring single by Jacobs put NCWC on top in the seventh, and the bullpen would do the rest to secure the win.

Junior Joseph Borgerding (3-2) was credited with the victory in relief, while senior Dillon Moore earned his fourth save of the season by notching a pair of strikeouts to end the game.

Unfortunately, Sunday's finale was all Lions as the Bishops struggled on the mound. PC opened up a 10-0 lead after two innings of play, and Wesleyan got no closer than 12-6 the rest of the way. Jacobs paced NCWC with a pair of hits, while freshman Brandon Wheat drove in two runs and scored three.

After winning all six of their conference series, Wesleyan finishes league action with a 13-5 mark and will now have to wait for the Panthers of Ferrum and LaGrange to play their final games next weekend before the USA South regular season champion can be determined. In the meantime, the Bishops (22-11) will take on a pair of non-conference foes, travelling to Christopher Newport on Monday for an afternoon twinbill and then heading to Emory University next weekend for a 3-game set.
