Marion, NC- The NC Wesleyan College baseball team cruised to a weekend sweep over Brevard College on Saturday taking game one 14-1 and winning 13-0 in 8 innings in game two.
Game 1 starter, J.D. Makauskas also pitched very well throwing 7 innings allowing just 2 hits and no runs on 4 walks and 8 Ks while reliever Luke Mills closed out the game tossing two innings.
Seniors Cedrick Kornegay and Brandon Wheat each recorded 4-hit games going a combined 8 for 12. Senior DH Nate Gardner, SS Alec Titmus and 3B Andrew Nichols also all went 3 for 5 with Nichols driving in 3 runs.
Wesleyan also set a season high in hits with 22 as 9 different Bishops would record hits in game 1. The Bishops also recorded 8 extra base hits in the game with 3 stolen bases.
NCWC 13, Brevard 0
Bishop sophomore starter Drew Tubb threw a terrific game two shutout going all 8 innings allowing 7 hits and one walk with 4 strikeouts.
Senior outfielder Logan Andrews led the Bishops offensively with 3 hits including a home run and a double and a team-high 5 RBIs. also recording 3 hits were Kornegay and 3B Trey Posilero while junior 2B Brad Pennington, Gardner, catcher Nick Beaver, and Titmus all had multi-hit games as part of a 19 hit attack.
The Bishops improve to 7-3 on the season and 3-2 in the USA South. Brevard falls to 3-9 and 0-5.
Wesleyan is next in action when they return home to host St. Andrews University (NC) on Wednesday at 2 pm.
