ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College baseball team split their non-conference doubleheader with Roger Williams University (RI) on Saturday shutting out the Hawks 4-0 in game one before falling 3-1 in game two.

NCWC 4, RWU 0

Senior 1B Trey Croom led the Bishops with a leadoff solo home run in the third inning, his first of the year, while fellow senior catcher Brandon Wheat (.415 average) and junior RF Trey Posilero each went 2 for 2 in game one. Junior SS Alec Titmus also hit an RBI single while senior LF Logan Andrews recorded two RBIs as well. Titmus is now hitting .400 on the season.

Senior pitcher Brynner Porter (3-0) then threw a 7-inning complete game shutout allowing just 4 hits with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts.

RWU 3, NCWC 1

Wesleyan would jump out to a quick 1-0 lead in game two as Croom would come around to score on an error in the first, but the story of the game for the Bishops was not being able to drive in the runs while leaving men on base throughout the game. Wesleyan totaled just 4 hits while drawing 4 walks, but would end up flying out to deep parts of the outfield or crushing balls right at people to end their scoring threats.

RWU had one big inning off senior Bishops Starter J.D. Makauskas (1-2) in the 4th inning taking advantage of an error to eventually score 3 runs to lead 3-1 after four. Makauskas struck out four over 4 innings allowing just 3 hits.

Wesleyan would then use 3 relievers to finish the game as each one threw a scoreless frame, but the NCWC offense could not find those tying runs in falling 3-1 to drop to 8-5 on the season while RWU improves to 1-1.

Sophomore Kevin Williams, senior Nate Gardner, and junior Noah Shrock combined to throw those three scoreless innings in the loss while Wheat also recorded two hits again to total four on the day.

The Bishops return to action on Tuesday to host Randolph-Macon College (Va.) in non-conference action at 3 PM.
