Pennington's 8 RBIs Power Bishops past Pride

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College baseball team rolled to their 4th straight USA South win and third straight overall with a 15-3 rout over Greensboro College on Friday afternoon.

The Bishops were led by the top of their order as junior 2B Brad Pennington and senior CF Cedrick Kornegay capped off a 6-run 2nd inning with back-to-back home runs. Pennington would end up finishing the day with 8 RBIs, his career-high along with 4 hits as he went 4 for 5 with a double, two home runs, and a single. He now has 3 homers and 20 RBIs on the year. 

Junior shortstop Alec Titmus also had a terrific game offensively going 4 for 4 with 2 RBIs and 4 runs scored while senior Logan Andrews also had 2 hits and 2 RBIs. Freshman 3B Andrew Nichols hit two doubles as well as an RBI while freshman DH Jackson Murray recorded a multi-hit game as NCWC out-hit the Pride 16-3.

On the mound, Wesleyan was led by senior starter Brynner Porter as he improved to 4-0 on the season by tossing 6 innings allowing 2 hits and 3 runs with 2 strikeouts as his ERA goes to 2.92. Senior reliever Nate Gardner also pitched well throwing two scoreless innings allowing just one hit with 3 strikeouts as he was very dominant. His seventh inning consisted of a 6-pitch, 6-strike inning.

Wesleyan improves to 11-5 overall and 4-2 in the conference while Greensboro falls to 2-10 and 2-4 in league play.

The Bishops remain home all weekend to host Greensboro College. Game two of the series begins Saturday at 1 PM when the Bishops will honor their 1989 and 1999 national championship teams.
