ROCKY MOUNT, N.C.- The NC Wesleyan College baseball team used a leadoff solo home run from junior 2B Brad Pennington to grab a 2-0 win in game one of their double-header with non-conference D-3 University of Maine at Presque Isle at home on Tuesday. Wesleyan also won 11-2 in game two.

NCWC 2, UMPI 0

Freshman pitcher Grant Bartlett started game 1 on the mound for the Bishops and tossed 3 scoreless innings. Junior reliever Connor Stratton (2-0) then came on to throw two scoreless frames as well while junior reliever Noah Shrock picked up the save. Freshman reliever Armaan Shafiq-Jan also threw a scoreless inning in his season debut. 

Junior catcher Nick Beaver also drove in a run with an RBI single in the third inning scoring Pennington. Pennington led the Bishops with a multi-hit game while senior 1B Trey Croom recorded a single and a stolen base as well.

NCWC 11, UMPI 2

The Bishops then steamrolled the Owls in game two scoring 5 runs in the bottom of the first, another run in the second, and then five more in the fourth to put the game away. Croom drove in the first two runs for the Bishops on a two-run triple. He was then followed by an RBI single from freshman Andrew Nichols and a two-run single from senior LF Logan Andrews.

Croom also drove in the next two runs for the Bishops with his 2nd inning RBI double scoring senior DH Brandon Wheat and his 4th inning RBI single scoring senior Cedrick Kornegay. Nichols again followed Croom with another RBI single before junior SS Alec Titmus cleared the bases with a three-run double making the score 11-0 in the 4th inning.

Croom went 3 for 3 with 4 RBIs and finished a homer shy of hitting for the cycle. Nichols, Titmus, and Wheat also recorded multi-hit games for Wesleyan while Nichols and Titmus stole bases as well.

Junior Pitcher Galen Beaver picked up the win on the mound for the Bishops throwing 3 scoreless innings with 4 strikeouts while freshman Zach Woolard, sophomore Chris Day, and junior Chris Sullivan also tossed scoreless frames in game two.

Wesleyan improves to 14-6 on the year and will next go on the road for a conference series at William Peace University beginning Friday evening at 7 PM.
