Methodist Rallies Past Bishops

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College baseball team fell 9-3 in game one of their conference series with rival Methodist University on the road Friday evening.

The Bishops got out to a 3-1 lead after two innings before Methodist rallied with 4 runs in the bottom of the third. The Monarchs would then add a run in the 4th and 3 more in the 7th while holding the Bishops scoreless for the rest of the game.

Wesleyan scored all 3 of their runs in the 2nd inning on RBI singles from juniors Alec Titmus and Brad Pennington and senior Logan Andrews. MU scored 6 runs (5 earned) off Bishop starter Brynner Porter as he lasted just 3 and 2/3 innings to fall to 4-1. Junior reliever Luke Mills then finished the game allowing just one hit and 3 unearned runs with 2 strikeouts over 4 and 1/3 innings.

Leading the Bishops with multi-hit games were Andrews and senior Trey Croom while 7 Bishops recorded hits on the day.

Wesleyan falls to 17-7 overall with the loss and 8-4 in the conference while Methodist goes to 20-5 and 10-3.

The teams will now finish their series in a 1:00 doubleheader tomorrow at Methodist.
