Baseball has 5 Named to All-Conference Teams

The USA South Athletic Conference has announced its 2019 All-Conference awards for Baseball. The 2019 5th seeded NC Wesleyan Battling Bishop Baseball team (22-14) received 5 all-conference players including a first-teamer (OF - Cedrick Kornegay), a second-teamer (1B Trey Croom), two third-teamers (2B Brad Pennington and Logan Andrews), and a sportsmanship nominee (Brandon Wheat).

Senior center fielder Kornegay led the Bishops on the First team as he had a spectacular season hitting .373 with 53 hits to tie Croom for the team lead. He also hit 11 doubles, 4 triples, 3 home runs, scored 34 runs and had 37 RBIs.

Croom also had a stellar season at first base to make the 2nd Team tying Kornegay for the team lead in hits and average while leading the Bishops in home runs with 7 and RBIs with 39. He also led the team in runs scored with 39 and slugging percentage at .627. 

Pennington, a junior second basemen and Andrews, a senior outfielder also had very consistent seasons hitting over .300 each in making the Third Team. Pennington hit an impressive .361 with 4 home runs, 31 RBIs, and 17 extra-base hits while getting on base at a .487 clip and slugging .582 with 37 runs scored. Andrews hit .305 with 4 home runs and 34 RBIs with 13 extra-base hits and 36 total hits.

Wheat also hit over .300 on the season hitting .303 with 33 hits and 17 RBIs and helped the team to 22 wins as a senior leader all season. 

The Bishops will now look towards the postseason with their first round game scheduled for Thursday at 3:30 pm vs. 4th seed Huntingdon College at Point University's Field (Ga.).
