Wesleyan Baseball Drops opener to EMU

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College baseball team dropped their season opener on Saturday 3-2 to Eastern Mennonite University (Va.).

Senior outfielder Max Johnson led with a solo homer and a team-best 3 hits on the day while also scoring the only 2 runs. Sophomore DH Jackson Murray also registered a multi-hit game going 2 for 4. Johnson also stole two bases in the loss while scoring the 2nd run in the 8th on a fielder's choice after he had singled and stole 2nd to lead off the inning.

EMU scored all 3 of their runs in the 6th inning including one on a passed ball and two more on a  RBI double.

Junior starter Dylan Patrick (0-1) allowed just one hit and two runs on 4 walks and 8 strikeouts over 5 and 2/3 innings. Reliever Kevin Williams went 1 and 1/3 innings allowing a run on 2 hits with 2 strikeouts while senior reliever Michael Smith finished the game allowing just 1 hit with 3 strikeouts over 2 innings.

The two teams will resume their series on Sunday with the doubleheader set to begin at 11 AM.
