Baseball Falls 5-4 to St. Andrews

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College baseball team lost a 5-4 heartbreaker to visiting non-conference foe, St. Andrews University at home on Tuesday.

 Wesleyan got off to a 3-0 lead after one inning scoring three runs on 3 RBI singles from sophomores Jackson Murray and LF Zach Lyon and freshman 2B Chase Kelly to complete a string of 5 straight hits for the Bishops.

SAU, however, would chip away throughout the game scoring runs in the 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 7th innings as their starting pitcher settled down to throw 8 innings. Wesleyan then got within one run in the 8th on a Trey Posilero RBI groundout but stranded 2 runners in the 9th to fall 5-4.

Wesleyan outhit the Knights 10-8 led by a 4-hit game from Murray. Posilero also tallied a multi-hit game. Murray, senior catcher Brad Pennington, and freshman CF Drifton Padgett all recorded doubles as well.

On the mound, junior starter Dylan Patrick struck out four over 2 innings while juniors Derrick Carter and Drew Tubb also threw 2 innings apiece with Tubb striking out three. Senior reliever Noah Shrock also struck out three over 2 innings but allowed 4 hits and 2 runs to suffer the loss while sophomore reliever Alex Crosby tossed a scoreless ninth.

Wesleyan falls to 2-4 while St. Andrews improves to 9-5.

The Bishops return to action this weekend when they head down to LaGrange College (Ga.) for their opening conference series on Saturday.
