ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College baseball team dropped a 6-5 heartbreaker to Ferrum College (Va.) at home on Sunday in game 1 of their doubleheader. Game two was suspended due to darkness with the Bishops leading 11-4 in the 4th inning. It will be made up on Tuesday at Ferrum.

GAME 1

Wesleyan got out to a great start leading 3-0 after two innings on freshman Tyson Bass' RBI single and junior SS Nathanael Hibbs' two-run single. Ferrum would then come back with a two-run homer in the third inning off Bishop senior pitcher Derrick Carter. Carter would go on to throw 5 innings allowing 2 runs on 3 hits with 2 walks and 8 strikeouts.

Freshman 1B Jackson Hobbs then made it 4-2 with his 4th inning RBI single driving in senior catcher Brad Pennington.

Unfortunately, Ferrum would then score 3 runs over the 6th and 7th innings off Bishop senior reliever Kevin Williams to take a 5-4 lead into the 9th inning. Wesleyan rallied in the 9th off a sac fly from freshman outfielder Zach Scott, but would leave the tying run on 2nd base.

Williams finished with 3 strikeouts over 3 innings while sophomore reliever Chandler Padgett struck out two in his one inning of work.

Collecting multi-hit games were infielders Davie Morgan and Bass while Hibbs, Bass, and outfielder Zach Lyon each stole two bases.

The foes will continue their game two on Tuesday at a TBA time at Ferrum College with the third game of the series set to begin at approx. 3 PM.
