Baseball Walks Off VWU in Extras on Morgan Homer

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College baseball team used a tenth inning solo home run from 2B Davie Morgan to come all the way back and stun the Marlins of VA Wesleyan 5-4 in 10 innings on Saturday.

The win improves Wesleyan to 4-1 as the teams are set to resume their series Sunday at Noon.

VWU got out to a quick 3-0 lead after two innings off of Bishop senior starter Derrick Carter. They scored on a wild pitch, groundout and single.

Wesleyan then began their comeback in the thrid inning as 3B Tyson Bass' sacrifice fly scored freshman RF Tristan Griffin. Sophomore DH Jackson Murray then added an RBI single in the 4th that brought home freshman 1B Jackson Hobbs.

After VW added their last run in the 6th on a sac fly, the Bishops came back with another run in the 7th on Bass' RBI single. Wesleyan then tied the game in the ninth on senior catcher Brad Pennington's RBI single that scored Bass, who had reached base via a walk.

Hobbs and Bass also knocked doubles while Pennington, Hobbs, and Bass all recorded two-hit games as Wesleyan outhit the Marlins 9-4.

Carter lasted 5 and 1/3 innings allowing 4 runs on 4 hits and 5 walks with 5 strikeouts. Senior reliever Kevin Williams then finished out the game tossing 4 and 2/3 shutout innings to get the win while striking out three.

The teams will play a Noon doubleheader on Sunday.
