ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The 24th ranked NC Wesleyan College baseball team scored 5 runs early and proceeded to hold off the CNU Captains 6-3 at Bauer Field on Friday afternoon.

Senior catcher Brad Pennington got the Bishops off to a good start with his first inning RBI single that scored freshman 3B Tyson Bass. Wesleyan then plated 4 runs in the 2nd inning as they sent 8 men to the plate.

After RF Tristan Griffin's RBI groundout, Bass stepped to the plate and crushed a two-run homer over the left field wall. Junior LF Zach Lyon then drove in shortstop Nate Hibbs with his single to put the Bishops up 5-0 after two innings.

Current Player of the Week, 2B Davie Morgan then powered another home run over the left field wall staking the Bishops to a 6-0 lead. It was Morgan's 4th home run of the season as he continues to lead the team in average at .396 and 19 RBIs.

Sophomore DH Travis Cross, however, led Wesleyan in hits on the day as he went 3 for 4 with a double and run scored.

Senior starting pitcher Derrick Carter pitched very well as he mowed down the Captains with 5 shutout innings before giving up a three-run homer in the 6th. He came back though to finish the inning and shut CNU down in the 7th as he finished with 7 strikeouts and no walks with only 2 earned runs allowed to pick up the win improving to 2-0.

Senior reliever Kevin Williams then picked up the save as he closed out the game tossing 2 hitless and scoreless innings with 3 strikeouts.

Wesleyan improves to 9-2 on the year while CNU falls to 5-2. The Bishops will return to action on Sunday when they head to Cary to battle William Peace in a non-conference DH at 3 PM.
