Baseball Falls 6-4 at CNU

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The NC Wesleyan College baseball team fell 6-4 on the road at Christopher Newport University (Va.) on Saturday afternoon.

 Wesleyan took their only lead in the game in the third inning as CF Drifton Padgett came around to score on an error before 2B Davie Morgan scored on an RBI walk from SS Tyson Bass.

Senior starting pitcher Derrick Carter picked up a no-decision in tossing 5 innings allowing 4 runs (3 earned) on 5 hits, a walk, and a season-high 10 strikeouts. Carter made two mistakes all day allowing a solo home run in the 2nd and a game-changing 3-run knock in the 4th that put CNU up 4-2. 

Senior reliever Kevin Williams then came on in relief in the 6th inning and allowed two unearned runs on 3 hits to get the loss. Sophomore pitcher Payne Stolsworth then finished out the game tossing two scoreless frames striking out two.

Wesleyan tied the game in the 6th inning on 3B Jackson Hobbs' two-run single that drove in outfielders Zach Lyon and Justin McDonald. Morgan led the offense with two hits in the game while pinch-hitter Tristan Griffin also knocked a double. Eight different Bishops recorded hits in the game.

Wesleyan falls to 2-3 with the loss and will next face Susquehanna University (Pa.) on Sunday afternoon at Noon at CNU. CNU improves to 3-3 on the season.
