Offense Erupts in Baseball's 14-4 win

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The NC Wesleyan College baseball team rolled to a big 14-4 non-conference neutral site win over Susquehanna University (Pa.) on Sunday afternoon at CNU.

The Bishops took advantage of five SU errors while totaling 14 runs on 10 hits in the win improving to 3-3 on the year.

Sophomore 3B Jackson Hobbs led the offense finishing 3 for 5 with a home run, double, and 5 RBIs while also scoring two runs. Junior CF Drifton Padgett also recorded a multi-hit game going 2 for 5 while junior 2B Davie Morgan also reached base four times and scored four runs via a double and three walks in the win.

DH Zach Scott also roped a triple and drove in a run while sophomore SS Tyson Bass and outfielder Jake Kuykendall also ripped RBI singles in the 10-run win. Junior LF Zach Lyon scored three runs and crushed a double as well.

Wesleyan jumped out to an 8-0 lead after three innings with Hobbs' two-run blast starting things off for the Bishops in the third. A six-run third inning then followed as Wesleyan plated runs via RBI singles, doubles, groundouts, wild pitches and errors.

Susquehanna (0-3) would then score four runs in the 4th off starting pitcher Cullen Davis before reliever Chandler Padgett (1-0) shut down Hawks over the next 4 and 1/3 innings striking out five to get the win while Wesleyan added 6 more runs over the final four frames. Wesleyan scored one in the 6th via error, and three in the 8th on a Hobbs bases-clearing double before reaching third via error.

Freshman reliever Hunter Hill also threw a scoreless inning striking out two. Davis started the game and tossed 3 and 2/3 innings allowing just one hit and struck out four, but walked 7 and allowed 4 runs.

The Bishops will now return home to host Randolph-Macon College on Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 PM from Bauer Field.
