SALEM, Va. - The NC Wesleyan College Baseball team edged Case Western Reserve (OH) 7-5 to win their Roanoke series this weekend. Sunday's game was played in Salem, VA at the Low-A Salem Red Sox stadium.

Sophomore SS Tyson Bass led the Bishops to the win going 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored as the Bishops improved to 7-5 on the season.

CWR got out to a early 2-0 lead in the 2nd off Bishop senior starter Drew Tubb before Wesleyan rallied with 3 runs in the third inning. Freshman Outfielder Cord Butler first scored on a wild pitch before consecutive RBI singles from sophomores Zach Scott and Tyson Bass made it 3-2 NCW.

CWRU (3-1) would tie it in the third before an RBI single from junior CF Drifton Padgett in the fourth regained the Bishops the lead at 4-3. Again, the Spartans tied it up in the 5th at 4 before Wesleyan scored the two go-ahead runs in the 8th on a CWRU error as Padgett and Butler came around to score.

Wesleyan then added an insurance run in the 9th on an Emry Jackson sacrifice fly to complete the scoring. Jackson also registered a multi-hit game to go along with Bass and Zach Scott. Padgett, Butler, junior 2B Davie Morgan, and junior catcher Jean Lagreca also recorded hits on the afternoon.

Sophomore reliever Cullen Davis (1-0) got the win for the Bishops as he tossed 3 solid innings in relief of Tubb. Davis only allowed one run on 3 hits and 4 walks while Tubb threw 5 innings allowing 2 earned runs on 7 hits and 3 walks while striking out two. Junior reliever Clayton Gilmore then came on for the save pitching a scoreless ninth with a strikeout.

Wesleyan will now return home to host Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday at 2:00 PM.
