Baseball Dismantles Pfeiffer 19-2

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College baseball team picked up where they left off on Friday by crushing Pfeiffer University pitching including hitting three home runs in one inning en route to a 19-2 win in game two of their series.

Wesleyan totaled 16 hits in the win including three homers, four doubles, and one triple. The big 7-run 2nd inning included an RBI single from 2B Davie Morgan followed by back-to-back home runs from SS Tyson Bass and 3B Jackson Hobbs, an RBI triple from LF Zach Lyon and a solo shot from CF Drifton Padgett, his second of the season. The home run from Hobbs was his 4th of the year while Bass' was his third.

Wesleyan also excelled on the mound as well as sophomore starter Danny Thompson (3-2) struck out 13 batters over 6 dominate innings allowing just one run on 4 hits and 3 walks to get the win and lower his ERA to under 3 at 2.96. Senior reliever Neiko Megrichian then came on for the seventh inning and struck out three on one hit and one run to finish the game.

Sophomore DH Blake Scott also added a three-run double in the third and a RBI single in the first inning while batting 3 for 3 on the day with 4 RBIs. Lyon, Bass, and Morgan all each drove in 3 runs and knocked two hits apiece as well. Padgett and catcher Jean Lagreca each recorded two-hit games while Lagreca drove in 2 runs. Nine different Bishops recorded hits on the afternoon.

Wesleyan improves to 12-9 on the season and 5-0 in the East Division while Pfeiffer falls to 6-8 and 3-2.

The teams will finish their series on Sunday for game three at 1:00.
