Baseball Splits with Greensboro

HIGH POINT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College Baseball team split their conference doubleheader on Friday against Greensboro College at HP Rockers Stadium in High Point, NC. Greensboro won game one 14-2 while Wesleyan took game two 13-4.

GAME 1: GC 14, NCWC 2

In the first game, Wesleyan senior starter Derrick Carter (6-1) labored over 6 and 1/3 innings allowing 10 hits and 8 runs (but just 3 earned) on 3 walks and 6 strikeouts as GC took a 5-1 lead through six innings. However, the game got away from the Bishops in the 7th as the Pride scored six runs off Carter and junior reliever Clayton Gilmore to go up 11-1 and put the game away. 

Greensboro finished the game off in the 8th inning scoring off relievers Alex Crosby and Cullen Davis. Wesleyan scored their two runs on an RBI single from catcher Jean Lagreca in the 4th and on a sacrifice fly from LF Zach Lyon in the 8th. Lagreca led the offense with three hits while sophomore Blake Scott recorded two hits.

GAME 2: NCWC 13, GC 4

Wesleyan got off to a better start in game two scoring two runs in the 2nd inning on a hit by ptich and a Davie Morgan RBI single. After GC got two runs in the 4th off starter Kevin Williams, 3B Jackson Hobbs came back with a solo shot in the 5th to take a 3-2 lead.

Wesleyan then extended their lead to 7-3 in the 6th inning with a 4-run frame. RF Alex Moskal got it started with an RBI walk before a Morgan sac fly.  An RBI single from Tyson Bass, an RBI double from Hobbs and another run-scoring single from DH Blake Scott followed in the 8th. Wesleyan then added another run on an error before  Zach Lyon's RBI triple and CF Drifton Padgett's sac fly made it 11-3.

A two-run single from Scott then made it 13-3 in the 9th as he finished with two hits and 3 RBIs. Hobbs led the offense with three hits including a single, double and home run. Eight different Bishops recorded a hit in the win.

Williams (1-1) got the win on the mound as he threw 6 and 1/3 innings allowing six hits and three runs on 4 walks and six strikeouts. Junior reliever Chandler Padgett then finished out the final 2 and 2/3 innings allowing just one hit and one run. 

The Bishops go to 18-14 overall and 11-3 in the conference while the Pride go to 11-17 overall and 6-8 in the Division.

The teams will complete their series on Saturday with an 11:00 AM start.
