Baseball Gets Back to Winning Ways with Sweep of Greensboro

Rocky Mount - The N.C. Wesleyan baseball program got back to its winning ways this weekend by sweeping Greensboro in USA South action. The Bishops are now tied for first in the standings with the Methodist headed into the final two weeks of the regular season.

The Basics:

Scores: N.C. Wesleyan 9, Greensboro 2      N.C. Wesleyan 15, Greensboro 3      N.C. Wesleyan 11, Greensboro 5

Location: N.C. Wesleyan University /  Rocky Mount, N.C.  /  Bauer Field

Records: N.C. Wesleyan (23-8, 12-3 USA South), Greensboro (12-18, 6-7 USA South)

How it Happened (Game 1):

  • Luke Chung's single got Wesleyan on the board in the second by driving in Jean Legreca
  • The scoring would continue in the fifth and sixth innings by way of a Jackson Hobbs bomb and a sac fly from Drifton Padgett to make it a 3-2 contest in Wesleyan's favor.
  • The eighth inning would feature an offensive burst that would put the game out of reach, by the way of five runs and four hits. The charge was led by another big at-bat by Jackson Hobbs, this time a double, then a rbi single by Davie Morgan. Javier Quintana also stole home in the same inning.
  • Senior RHP Payne Stolsworth put together another quality start tossing seven innings and only allowing two runs off five hits.

How it Happened (Game 2):

  • A big offensive game that featured over sixteen hits for the Bishops led by Zach Lyon and Tyson Bass scoring three runs each at the top of the order. 
  • Singles by Alex Moskel, Drifton Padgett, and Jean Legreca would cap off a five-hit fourth inning that put the contest out of hand in Wesleyan's favor.
  • The Bishops would once again score four runs in the seventh to walk the game off by the run rule. A sac-fly from Javier Quintana would end the affair, but Davie Morgan and Jackson Hobbs would explode once again by both collecting RBI hits.
  • Hunter Hill would get the win for Wesleyan by throwing six innings of three-hit baseball and striking out six Greensboro hitters in his outing.

How it Happened (Game 3):

  • In the eleven-run affair, Wesleyan would score four runs in the first three innings. In the first, Drifton Padgett's single would drive in Tyson Bass and Zach LyonIn the third inning,
  • Jackson Hobbs and Davie Morgan would be the spark to the offense as Hobbs singled and Morgan contributed a sac-fly.
  • The Bishops would strike for four runs in the 8th capped off by an Alex Moskel single that scored Morgan.
