Wesleyan Explodes for 25 Runs, Advances to USA South Championship

Rocky Mount, N.C. - The N.C. Wesleyan baseball team swept Pfeiffer in a DH on Saturday in dominant fashion to advance to the USA South Championship against William Peace next Friday at Bauer Field.

How It Happened (Game 1): 

  • In the most impressive two out rally in recent history, the Bishops put up eight runs in the first inning starting off with a Drifton Padgett single.
  • The hit parade would continue with Luke Chung and Tyson Bass singling to plate runs and Jean Legreca getting a walk with a RBI.
  • The second inning was no different with five more runs with a Zach Lyon single and Tyson Bass sac-fly.
  • In the 3rd and 4th innings, Wesleyan would put twelve more runs on the board, this time with the long ball by Drifton Padgett and Tyson Bass who would have a career day with two homers and six RBI's.
  • The win would go to Hunter Hill who pitched 4 1/3 striking out six Falcons.
  • Cord Butler and Chandler Padgett would not allow but one hit the remainder of the game to close the door on the 25 run, 14 hit slugfest.

How It Happened (Game 2):

  • Wesleyan would plate eight runs against Pfeiffer in game 2, starting out with a monster third inning. Four straight singles by Jackson Hobbs, Davie Morgan, Jaiden Barker, and Alex Moskel would start the bats up.
  • A Zach Lyon double and sac-flys by Tyson Bass and Jackson Hobbs would plate three more runs to put the game out of reach.
  • In 5 2/3 Dylan Cheeley would be the winning pitcher, striking out six to improve to 6-0 on the season.
  • Cullen Davis would come in to strike out six of his own in 2 2/3 out of the pen for the Bishops.

Up Next:

The Battling Bishops advance to the USA South Championship Series (Best of 3) against William Peace on Friday at 6:00 at Bauer Field. The program will be seeking its first conference title since 2009.
